Fight Club OC brought in the heat with a 2026 summer show for the ages! The Hangar at the OC Fair & Events Center in Costa Mesa, CA on June 18th featured a little something for everyone with awesome bouts that had action from bell to bell, and a Tequila Mandala Young Champions bout to close out the night!
Starting the evening was a 3 round, MMA (a rarity as Fight Club OC usually begins with boxing) Bantamweight bout featuring Los Angeles’s Chris Cruz 5-2-1 vs. San Diego’s brutal John Andrus (4-2). These 127 pounders went at it from the opening bell. There was a lot of good work from both fighters, and after the first round it looked like this bout might go the distance. That wasn’t the case as Cruz was able to submit Andrus via a rear naked choke in the second round.
Moving back into boxing saw Riverside’s Raymon Rivas (4-1) vs. Eduardo Mondragon 0-6-1 from Escondido. These Super Featherweights engaged in a spirited contest, but it was clear from the first round that Rivas was going to be just a little bit ahead all night. Mondragon had his moments but it wasn’t enough and, unfortunately for him, he remains winless as Rivas was awarded a unanimous decision.
Another MMA bout happened after this in the Welterweight ranks with Palmdale’s Saad Ul-Hasan 8-11 (3KOs) going up against Fallbrook’s El-J Portee 8-12-1. These welterweights brought big records, and even bigger hearts as they both had moments of testing one another. The MMA action at Fight Club OC always engages the crowd, and that was no different tonight as these two combatants were determined to put on a show. In the end, Portee overtook his foe and the referee had decided that they’d seen enough, and this bout was stopped in the second round.
This night’s 6 round, Tequila Mandala Young Champions bout happened in the Super Middleweight division when San Diego’s Elliot Taylor 6-0 (5KOs) went hard against Louis Vasquez 2-3 (2KO’s) from Ontario. The returning Taylor kept his Fight Club OC streak alive by taking a lively decision over Louis Vasquez. This was a steady, measured performance from Taylor as he did his best to the control distance, tempo, and pace of the fight. Vasquez was game and he made Taylor work for it, but it just wasn’t enough to get his hand raised in the end.
