Adams Proves Worthy of Main Event Status

COSTA MESA – Brandon Adams was presented with the opportunity to be in the main event of Thursday’s Fight Club OC, and he didn’t waste it.

Adams, who fights out of Los Angeles, defeated Cleven Ishe by unanimous decision in their four-round bout in front of 1,372 at the Hangar at the Fairgrounds. Two of the judges scored the fight 40-36 and the third judge had it 39-37. “He was pretty wild,” Adams (6-0) said of Ishe. “I was trying to take whatever he gave me.” Adams, was bumped up to the main event last week but said he wasn’t aware of it until the weigh-ins Wednesday. “I was a little nervous about that,” he said.

On the undercard, Giovanni Santillan of San Diego improved to 2-0 with a first round stoppage of Ronald Rodriguez in a junior welterweight fight. Santillan sent Rodriguez to the canvas early in the round. Rodriguez beat referee’s Raul Caiz Jr. 10 count, but Santillan smothered him with punches, forcing Caiz to step in and stop the bout at 1:31.

Also on the undercard, La Habra’s Isaac Tadeo didn’t have any trouble with his opponent, Marlon Ortez. Tadeo (2-0) pressured Ortez from the outset, landing heavy combinations, prompting Caiz to stop the proceedings at 2:33 of the first round for the victory in a super welterweight fight.

In the first fight of the night, Roberto Crespo of Riverside defeated Andre Ewell by majority decision in a four-round welterweight matchup. Two judges scored the fight 39-37 for Crespo and the third card had it even, 38-38. Crespo improved to 4-1.

In the two MMA fights, Willie Gates defeated James Carbajal by unanimous decision and Jason Smith of Dana Point defeated Mike Sandez by submission.
