Six Bouts of Fury, Flash, and Fantastic Skills!

October 25, 2024

Fight Club OC returned on October 24th to explode the dome off the Hangar at the OC Fair & Events Center in lovely Costa Mesa, CA! It was a night filled with knockouts, cuts, and the brutality you’ve come to expect from a show that was sold out weeks ago! With 6 bouts showcasing fighters from as close as Santa Ana to all the way from Argentina this hybrid boxing/MMA card did not disappoint!

Opening the show was Cypress’s Billy Timmons (3-2) vs. Concordia, Argentina’s Luciano Ramos (2-7) in a 4 round, lightweight, boxing match. These members of the 135 lb. class showed once again why losses on a fighters record often mean NOTHING. Timmons used his sharp tactical skills to keep the onrushing Ramos at bay. Both fighters displayed class and strong ring acumen throughout the contest. However, Timmons was elusive and worked behind his jab to neutralize Ramos’s attack and take a well deserved decision.

After that, we stayed with boxing as Super Middleweights Jaime Cerna (7-0-2 4KOs) from Rancho Cucamonga battled debuting Louis Vasquez (0-1) from Ontario. This four round battle was a tactical one as Cerna had a draw in his last bout at Fight Club OC. Vasquez may have only been making his pro-debut but he gave as good as he got. He rocked Cerna early, however, Cerna composed himself and used his ring IQ to fight behind a stiff jab and earn a decision over his rugged and game foe.

Our third bout moved things to MMA territory where Kohl Laren (4-2) from Huntington Beach took on Caleb Tenpas (0-2) from Santa Clarita in a 3 round lightweight bout. Laren was returning after a masterful performance against Jeremy Fattorusso, and he again didn’t want to disappoint his rabid fan base. Laren was very patient with Tenpas for about the first 4 minutes and 30 seconds of the first round. Then Laren landed a shot that caused Tenpas to drop his guard, and that allowed Laren to land a knee to the chin and KO his foe in the first round. It was another masterful performance at Fight Club OC!

Fighting in a sixth round contest was Dorian Mendez (5-0 2KOs) from Boyle Heights vs William Davis (3-3-1 1KO) from Oakland. These Super Lightweights engaged in a close, spirited contest that hands the fans cheering, and throwing money in the ring. It looked like Davis might’ve taken the first two rounds, then Mendez roared back with shots to the body and head. This weakened Davis enough that Mendez took a decision over Davis in this tightly contested battle.

Our co-main event saw us return to MMA with Anaheim’s Chris Hansen (2-6) taking on Santa Ana’s Carlos Elizarraraz (3-6-1) in a 3 round Bantamweight bout. Both fighters brought voracious cheers from the crowd and this bout lived up to the hype. Hansen and Elizarraraz engaged in some ground and pound warfare for about the first 4 minutes of this short contest. Then Elizarraraz ended things with some well placed moves and the bout was over in the first.

Closing the show was a Tequila Mandala Fight of the Night! Oscar Trujillo (2-0) from Riverside went up against Niguy Simms (0-1) who was debuting from Compton in a 4 round, welterweight bout. Trujillo wanted his second W and Simms wanted his first in the pro ranks, that made for an electric final show. Simms and Trujillo fought in a phonebooth for just about the entire fight. The action was back and fourth from the first to the last round. Honestly, it could’ve been a draw but the judges saw it for Trujillo.
