Marconi Foundation For Kids Fight Night Results

March 18, 2013

Before a sold out, smartly dressed crowd of nearly 500, the Marconi Foundation For Kids Fight Night 15 saw a night of spectacular boxing action and upsets.

In a Roy Englebrecht Promotions show, the three bout card saw Detroit cruiserweight Mitch Williams take home the Marconi Championship Belt with a big second round knockout out of Vegas’s Henry Namauu. After an opening round of action, Williams caught Namauu with a big right hand that sent the former UNLV football player to the canvas. Up at eight but looking dazed, Namauu tried to finish the round but Williams caught him again against the rope and after five or six unanswered blows referee Raul Caiz Jr wisely waved the fight over. Williams moved to 7-2 with 5kos and Namauu drops to 10-6.

In an upset Oxnard’s 8-0 Herbert Acevedo dropped his first pro fight losing a majority decision to Anaheim’s rising prospect Joaquin Chavez. In a fight of the year candidate, the two jr welterweights stood toe to toe for six rounds giving and taking with the hot Chavez having more heart in the later rounds to take the win over a tiring Acevedo. Chavez goes to 3-5 and is on a hot streak winning two in a row starting with a second round KO of Luis Hernandez on February 28th on the Fight Club OC show. Acevedo goes to 8-1.

Top jr featherweight prospect Joet Gonzalez goes to 3-0 with a tough four round UD over Tijuana’s Sergio Najera. The opening bout of the show saw Gonzalez, from Glendora, dominate pretty much each round, but a very game Najera never backed down, and both fighters looked like they had battled for the four rounds.

Featured celebrity at the Fight Night 15 show was Victor Ortiz.
